Seasonal rainfall variability and its correlation with potential drivers over Western Oromia

چکیده

Characterizing seasonal rainfall and identifying its association with the climate drivers are important to produce reliable forecasts of a given area. This study examined variability relationships SST, SLP sunspot indices by statistical methods over Western Oromia. The regional is characterized monomodal pattern 60% contribution in Kiremt season. High temporal anomaly but no extremes were observed from 1981-2017. An insignificant decreasing Belg but, an increasing Bega trend was observed. ENSO PDO/ DMI AMO showed negative/ positive correlation kiremt rainfall. ENSO, for belg whereas, PDO associated negatively most parts region. PSI kiremt/Belg significant positive/Negative spatial western part (West Wolega Illubabor) / East (Jimma & wollega) results that there trends anomalies main rainy seasons region good correlations these various indices. Therefore, it suggested predictions may consider large-scale determinants oscillation like predicting climatic events. Â

Seasonal Variability of Vegetation and Its Relationship to Rainfall and Fire in the Brazilian Tropical Savanna

The Brazilian savanna, named locally Cerrado, is the second largest Brazilian biome, covering approximately two million km2, especially in the Central Highlands (Ratter et al., 1997). This biome is composed predominantly of tropical savanna vegetation and is considered as one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, a priority area for biodiversity conservation in the world (Myers et al., 2000). T...

Comparison of measured multi-decadal rainfall variability with farmers’ perceptions of and responses to seasonal changes in western Uganda

Smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are not only dealing with decreased production from land degradation, but are also impacted heavily by climate variability. Farmers perceive decreased rainfall or shortened rainy seasons throughout SSA; however, the link between perceptions and climate variability is complex, especially in areas with increasing land degradation. Moreover, little i...

Interannual Rainfall Extremes over Southwest Western Australia Linked to Indian Ocean Climate Variability

Interannual rainfall extremes over southwest Western Australia (SWWA) are examined using observations, reanalysis data, and a long-term natural integration of the global coupled climate system. The authors reveal a characteristic dipole pattern of Indian Ocean sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies during extreme rainfall years, remarkably consistent between the reanalysis fields and the coupl...
